Powerball Numbers for $1.4B Jackpot – Sept. 3

If you are the sole lucky winner that matches all five numbers and the Powerball, you can choose a one-time cash payment of $634.3 million. That’s before federal taxes and possibly state tax, depending on where you live and where you bought the ticket.

Alaska, California, Delaware, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming don’t impose a state tax on lottery winnings.

No matter how you slice it, a single winner of the Sept. 3 Powerball would likely come away with a lump-sum payout of over $300 million after taxes.

The odds of winning the jackpot in the latest drawing, according to the Powerball website, are 1 in 292.2 million.

Jackpot is largest since April 2024

Not since May 31− 40 of the twice-weekly drawings ago − has anyone matched all six Powerball numbers. The jackpot is the largest since $1.326 billion was up for grabs in April 2024. The largest Powerball jackpot? More than $2 billion, won in November 2022.

There have been four Powerball jackpot winners in 2025, most recently on May 31, when a person in California won the $204.5 million prize.

A lucky player in Oregon had the first jackpot-winning Powerball ticket of 2025, netting $328.5 million on Jan. 18. A second jackpot winner matched all six Powerball numbers on March 29, winning $527 million. A third jackpot winner from Kentucky won the $167.3 million prize on April 26.

How to play the Powerball

To play Powerball, you need to buy a ticket for $2. You can do this at a variety of locations, including your local convenience store, gas station, or even grocery store. Additionally, in some states, you can buy Powerball tickets online.

Once you have your ticket, you need to pick six numbers. Five of them will be white balls with numbers from 1 to 69. The red Powerball ranges from 1 to 26. People can also add a “Power Play” for $1, which increases the winning for all non-jackpot prizes.
